The character education goals of the Brigantine Elementary School cover a multi-layered approach to building character through constant daily exposure to strong core ethical values for the whole child. The school’s specialization is an integrated approach to learning, addressing high student achievement in a safe, caring school environment. It is their belief that moral strength is a result of teaching the WHOLE child to make good choices consistently, treat others compassionately, and care about themselves by making healthy choices. Their process specifies the school community should make strong moral choices focusing on compassion, kindness, responsibility, high academic achievement, honesty, respect, and physical fitness. This promotes intrinsic moral values, academic excellence, and personal success. Brigantine’s program has taught children the importance of strong ethical and moral values through the practice of kindness and respect.
“Character has become the thinking philosophy of the island. We are the best practitioners of what we believe” – Dr. Robert Previti, Superintendent of Schools, Brigantine, NJ
