Johnson Elementary School is proud of their development into a true Professional Learning Community in which the educational, emotional, and social needs of their students are of primary focus. They often times engage in self-reflection and have found that they would like to further concentrate their efforts in increasing their students’ opportunities for Service Learning, including those that involve the broader community outside of their school. To this end, Johnson Elementary School has reinstituted their dormant Student Council and has created the Environmental Club that is working in conjunction with their Township’s RecycleBank Program. The school is comprised of students that represent diverse backgrounds. The staff has attended Cultural Competence trainings so that all employees have access to the skills that are needed in working with people who come from a variety of perspectives. The Lion’s Quest program is the glue that holds Johnson Elementary School’s character education program together.

"It is clear through the programs, lessons, and attitudes of the Johnson School Community that Character education is both valued and practiced." – Caryn Murtha, Johnson Elementary School parent
