2010 New Jersey Schools of Character

Henry C. Beck Middle School: Honorable Mention

At Henry C. Beck Middle School, we view Character Education as a catalyst for nurturing a culture that values our students as central members of our Beck family while helping to develop them into responsible and respectful citizens of the school, community andworld. We place a keen emphasis on character development through the AM Beck Advisory (Activity/Mentoring). As a first priority, this class meets at the start of each day for 45 minutes. Beck’s PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support in Schools) and “PAWSITIVE initiatives, Project Wisdom and the Lion’s Quest curriculum all support these goals. We value good character as a foundation for all success, and honor positive behaviors exemplified by our “High Fives.” These attributes (Responsible, Respectful, On Time, Prepared, Safe) are explicitly taught to our students. The Beck family is firmly vested in bolstering the very best in everyone.

“As a parent, it is so great to know that my child at Beck Middle School is a part of a caring school  family wherecharacter education is actively encouraged, modeled, developed and implemented at all levels.” –Kim Klein, Parent
