2010 New Jersey Schools of Character
Lawrenceville Elementary School: New Jersey Schools of Character
When you enter Lawrenceville Elementary School (LES) you “feel” the moral fortitude of the school family. They strive daily to develop “caring, responsible, contributing citizens”. It is their belief that if these values are developed and reinforced at school, it will make ethical decision making an instinctive response in their students’ lives outside of the confines of the school walls. LES gives their diverse students, those from high economic status and those from the lowest economic status, leveled opportunities to achieve in a caring nurturing environment. Whether the children are visiting the soup kitchen, making Valentines for the nursing home, weeding their outdoor classroom, or celebrating accomplishments through an Awesome Assembly, character initiatives are embedded within the curriculum. Citizenship, good character, and academic achievement are first and foremost at LES. Lawrenceville Elementary School stands together in their belief that character counts!
“When I hear the “Awesome” Cheer at an Awesome Assembly, (AWE-clap-clap-SOME-clap-clap) I feel so proud ofmyself and of my school. We work really hard to become good citizens by learning how to help others. Our wholeschool practices using good manners and self-control…that’s why we’re a School of Character!” – Third Grader
