2010 New Jersey Schools of Character

Thomas Paine International Elementary School: Honorable Mention

At Thomas Paine International Elementary School we encourage students to become active, lifelong learners who understand that all people, with their similarities and differences, should be given a voice as we acknowledge different perspectives. We are committed to developing good citizens of our nation first, and then of the world. When our children have completed their years at Thomas Paine, it is our expectation that they will be: Knowledgeable, Inquirers, Principled, Open-Minded, Thinkers, Reflective, Risk-Takers, Caring, Communicators, and Balanced individuals. The attributes are supported by the following attitudes that we are building in  our students: Respect, Commitment, Cooperation, Appreciation, Empathy, Tolerance, Integrity, Curiosity, Enthusiasm, Creativity, Confidence and Independence. All staff and support personnel are committed to delivering the New Jersey core curriculum standards, benchmarks, and assessments through the implementation of The Primary Years Programme. We firmly believe that this program reflects the most current, global, and best practices in education.

“Building good character traits, while also focusing on academics, seems to be the foundation of what drives your school to be the very best. We all need to be a model for good character for our children and can learn from the Thomas Paine model.” – Stephen O’Toole, parent
